The startup, which uses algae and seafood to develop proteins similar to traditional foods, has won second prize in the foodtech category

The startup Omnívorus, housed in the Blue Economy incubator of the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz, Incubazul, has been awarded at the Expansión Start Up Awards in the foodtech category, which is awarded every year by the specialized publication and which has celebrated its sixth edition.

Omnivorus was born from the intention of occupying a niche: that of innovation aimed at more conscious and healthy eating. It is a startup that researches and develops new food formulas with plant-based functional ingredients. They develop formulas for healthy snacks based on salicornia with oligofructose as a sugar substitute and vegetable protein formulas as substitutes for traditional foods, all of them with ingredients of plant origin such as algae, salicornia and other seafood products.

In the foodtech category, the winners were, in addition to Omnívorus, which won second prize, Ositos Cocktails Edibles, first prize, and ComexSoft, with third prize.

Ositos Cocktails Edibles has developed a technology to solidify cocktails and transform them into sweet bites with a candy texture. The company can create an infinite variety of flavors and shapes and has already collaborated with brands such as Royal Bliss, Ushuaïa Ibiza or Vincci. The third winner in this category, ComexSoft, is a SaaS solution for consumer businesses that integrates competitive AI and real-time big data analytics.

This year, 18 emerging firms selected from a total of 81 candidates have been distinguished, of which 61 met all the requirements to participate. The awards, sponsored by Abertis, CaixBank, Cellnex and the Development Institute of the Region of Murcia, are a reference for the sector and serve to put on the map the most cutting-edge projects currently being developed in Spain.
