The project eat playing, created by Francisco Reche, has been selected as one of the ten semi-finalists in the AgX Fair 2024 competition of the World Food Forum (WFF). Among 90 proposals submitted from all over the world, eat playing has stood out for its original approach to food education through a card game.
eat playing is an educational game designed for children from 8 years old, which seeks to combat the worrying increase in childhood overweight and obesity, a problem that affects 40% of children in Spain. Using a playful and educational approach, the game encourages children to explore the fascinating world of healthy eating, making healthy foods more attractive.
In the game, children must capture evil creatures that represent the additives used
in ultra-processed foods and complete healthy recipes using food cards and other cards with special effects. A key feature of the game is its food classification system, which allows ingredients to be swapped in recipes, encouraging creativity in the kitchen. Additionally, each food card includes cooking ideas and food combinations, providing creative resources for children to experiment and explore in the kitchen.
eat playing It has been developed with the collaboration of experts in nutrition, algae and marine resources, cooking schools and game designers, among others. In addition, it contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Health and Wellbeing), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 13 (Action for the weather).
Till the date, eat playing It has been tested at various game fairs throughout Spain, with great acceptance by the participants. This summer, the project seeks to expand its impact by conducting tests in summer camps with children, to teach them about the importance of healthy eating in a fun and interactive way.
